Are two Windows 10 updates a year doing more to hurt users than help them?

Microsoft’s latest feature update for Windows 10 doesn’t paint a very good picture for Windows as a Service, so is it time to dial things back a bit? Windows as a Service allows Microsoft to update Windows 10 on a regular basis with patches, security updates, and indeed new features. These new features arrive in the form of “major updates” that Microsoft has committed to releasing twice a year. While two major updates a year allows Microsoft to innovate and get new features out faster, it also causes a lot of headaches for the end-user. Microsoft’s latest feature update for Windows 10, known as the April 2018 update, has proven exceptionally problematic for a lot of users. Users across the web have been struggling with issues around dedicated GPUs, Bluetooth connectivity, notifications that wrongly alert the user of low storage, and a whole lot more. Hey Cortana, why does Microsoft make it so hard to find out what’s new with you?

Learning what Cortana can do and what’s coming next is the classic discovery problem.

Microsoft’s biggest problem around its Cortana digital assistant is perception. The Siri and Google Now competitor has a rich feature set, and while the focus is shifting from pure app-like experience to a more nuanced smart-OS, there’s a lot of potential.

One area that is not great for Cortana — besides restricted regional availability — is knowing what Cortana can and cannot do, or more specifically, if any new features have been added. Amazon has proven that this problem is solvable, without much effort.

I just never caught the Cortana craze.  Until it gets light years better it is not worth wasting time on.   Siri has Cortana beat by a long shot in my opinion.

Microsoft has been hard at it lately rolling out all kinds of changes, updates, feature editions, etc.  After the last two Windows 10 updates, I am not excited at all about any new features.  I would prefer that they work on the bugs that are already within Windows 10 or even better yet they could scrap it completely and go back to Windows 7 until they figure it out.
